2011 Topps Tribute Review

It's hard to hide our blatant lust for the 2011 Topps Tribute so we won't even try. We have been blinded by the great hits we've been able to pull from a total of four boxes.

The 2011 boxes come with three autograph or autograph relics and three relic cards.  The base set includes 100 cards with parallels that include blue, green and gold refractors. The blue and gold are far more aesthetically pleasing than the green parallel.  There are also book cards and multiple auto cards in the set.

The only flaw we have been able to tag to the set is their fragile nature. Collectors should check their cards carefully for "peeling" along the corners and edges or slight scratches on the surface.

We were initially able to get a box for $285 at Triple Cards and Collectibles in Plano, Texas. When we arrived to the shop a gentleman had just busted a box.  One of his pulls was a 1/1 Derek Jeter book card which another customer promptly purchased for $400 once he realized that we had claimed the last box in the shop.

We liked the product so much we ended up purchasing a total of four boxes in a span of a few weeks.  By the time we purchased our fourth box the cheapest price we were able to find was $380.  The demand for the 2011 Tribute is clearly still going strong with online vendors selling boxes for over $400.  Even with four box breaks, we were not able to pull a Sandy Koufax of any sort.  Many of the cards from our box break are listed on eBay.  Our seller ID is EastTexasSportsCards1

Did the Foo Get a Cue from the Hobby?

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl may have found a way to get listeners closer to the music much in the way the hobby has brought fans closer to the game.

We are all familiar with relic cards that include pieces of jersey, bat or even stadium seats.  Well it appears that certain issues of the latest record from the band include actual pieces of the analog master tape from the recordings.  The entire album was recorded on analog tape, which is a rarity today. When the record was finished the band decided to cut the master tape into small strips and inserted the "relics" into CD packaging.

With the music industry struggling to sell physical copies of music, the Foo Fighters may have given people a reason to actually buy a CD again.
